there is no QAM tuner in this unit in contrast with the amazon description. you still need a cable box to see the cable channels. My sony LCD picks up more than a hundred digital ones from the cable line, while this dvr is only 20 analogue channels.

I have this recorder for three weeks. All the functions work as good as an expensive Sharp DVD recorder it replaced. One exception is that the time remaining for a partially recorded disk is not display. You have to keep track of how much time you recorded on a given disk yourself.
