Just hooked my new Toshiba up with a Sony upconverting DVD player and find it a match made in heaven. Especially since the Sony seems to work off the Toshiba remote as well. That was an unexpected bonus. At this size, you really don't need a blue-ray player. The colour, clarity and features of the Toshiba compare favourably to my 46-inch Sharp 1080p. I was very impressed after calibrating the smaller 32-incher using Michael D's suggestions (although I tweaked his a wee bit). Nice set! As long as it holds up for years without crapping out, it'll stay a 5-star wonder. If not, you'll hear about it. :-)
BTW If you're wondering why I didn't buy another Sharp (32-inch model) it's because the Toshiba was on sale and looked good. I buy the lowest-priced brand name model when shopping and then cross my fingers and hope the thing holds up. So far, the 32AV502R looks to be getting mostly stellar reviews. And for good reasons, including excellent sound quality. Let's hope longevity figures in there eventually, too.

I bought the Toshiba 32AV502R for my elderly grandpa. I wanted to get something for him that was easy to use and took up very little space. This TV is working out perfectly for him. He watches TV solely in standard definition. The picture on this Toshiba is better than either of my Panasonics in SD. The colors appear vibrant even in standard definition. The picture in standard definition isn't perfect of course and will likely not impress people used to HD TV. For my grandpa though, this isn't an issue. He likes the picture and is able to use the remote easily.
We also tested the TV in HD and found the image to be quite pretty. The blacks were dark and the colors were vibrant.
The TV fits nicely on my grandpa's smallish credenza and doesn't overwhelm his small bedroom. The case is shiny and the speakers are unobtrusive.
Overall, my grandpa has had a great experience with this TV and so far it has been the perfect TV for his small space.

Got the TV at good price. Update to 12/09 newer firmware(version 1.09?), which I feel it produce better PQ. There is 2 problem with the TV (at lease the one I have):
1. TV surfing. I have cable which has analog and digital channel. This TV went blank sometime when I surfing channels between analog and digital like channel 7 to 7.1 to 7.2. The TV seems can't lock the signal and I have to turn off and on to get out the freeze/problem.
2. Not detect Video signal from my Viewsonic VMP70 media HD player. No idea why. I have been use the Viewsonic VMP70 media player with my Samsung and Dynex(bestbuy brand) with no issue. This toshiba just display no signal when I connect it with HDMI where I use HDMI connection for the media player with my Samsung or Dynex works fine. So, if you have Viewsonic VMP70, this TV is not for you. However, the WD HD media player works fine with HDMI. I didn't try use other connection like component or composite.
Other than above 2 issue, it works fine(play games, watch TV -not surfing) with good picture. Recommand to update the new firmware for better picture.

Picture is better than expected for this price. The tuner allows HD content on many channels without a digital cable box (due to QAM, I suppose). The speakers are adequate for a relatively small room. We would like it to have an on-screen clock, sound leveling, and an adjustable base (height or even just tilt), but these are minor concerns. The remote is hideous (looks like it was made by Texas Intsruments in 1979) but functional and logical. Overall a great value, especially if you can get free shipping.
